Product Description

Product Description The Warren Hood Band's previous album sold over 2,000 units at live shows alone.Warren Hood has performed on Don Imus/Imus in the Morning, Austin City Limitsand WGSR radio in studio. His previous band, The Waybacks, toured as Bob Weir s(Grateful Dead) back up band.Warren Hood began playing the fiddle at the age of eleven and has since gone on towin numerous awards for string virtuosity and has been recognized twice as StringPlayer of the Year in the Austin Chronicle Music Poll. The son of Austin, Texas musiclegend Champ Hood (Uncle Walt s Band, Toni Price), Warren has gone on to becomean accomplished musician and singer/songwriter in his own right, and has toured extensively with the Waybacks and the BoDeans. He has performed and/or recorded with such noteworthy artists as Lyle Lovett, Ben Kweller, Little Feat, Elvis Costello, Bob Weir and Alejandro Escovedo.Along with Austin guitar ace Willie Pipkin, The Warren Hood Band features singer and pianist Emily Gimble, the granddaughter of Grammy Award winning fiddle player Johnny Gimble. Emily is also known for her role as lead singer and pianist of the Marshall Ford Swing Band. The self titled debut album The Warren Hood Band was brilliantly produced by Charlie Sexton and 9 of the 11 songs were written/co written by Warren, including the album s single `Alright` and the rockin , soulful `Where Have You Gone`, phenomenally sung by Emily Gimble. Review The cream always rises to the top, and there are young performers out there who will find their audience [such as] Warren Hood, a terrific songwriter and singer. --Lyle LovettTHE WARREN HOOD BAND album is mostly a feel-good collection of songs with old-time, rootsy atmospheres that never sound dated and manage to stay fresh.Hood began playing fiddle when he was 11, won top honors at the Berklee School of Music, and has recorded with the likes of Lyle Lovett, Joan Osborne, Emmylou Harris, Elvis Costello, Susan tedeschi, Gillian Welch, Alejandro Escovedo, and plenty more. He's also the son of beloved Austin legend Champ Hood. Here, he teams up with Emily Gimble to do some of his own songs, one of his dad's, one of Walter Hyatt's and several co-writes with friends Susanne Choffel, Gwil Owen, Willie Pipkin, and James Hyland.Songbird, one of the co-writes with Pipkin, is perhaps the highlight. It's a bouncy, upbeat, metaphorical song about a lonely man asking why the little songbird loves to sing and and fly and lamenting, ever since he's been alone, the whistle of the evening train.Charlie Sexton produced, added piano, electric and acoustic guitars, 12-string guitar, banjo, percussion, and background vocals. Pipkin played lead guitar.Nate Rowe bass, J.J. Johnson and Dony Wynn drums, and Lloyd Maines pedal steel.Gimble, who has her own family pedigree, coming from the Johnny Gimble clan, added-various keyboards and background vocalsas well as lead vocals on three of the songs, sound a little lost in the production on Pear Blossom Highway but brings a nice Norah Jones-ish sound to Take Me By the Hand and Where Have You Gone. --Tom Geddie of Buddy MagazineHood has style to burn, with a knack for composing songs as ageless as they are pleasing to hear. --Margaret Moser of The Austin Chronicle

I just discovered this band and they are good. They have a female vocalist in the band that sounds like Norah Jones. A good album all the way through. I recommend them!Big T
